Julie has been a member of the San Francisco Fire Department since 2002.  She has a B.A. from San Francisco State University, and is active in the San Francisco Hawaiian community as a dancer, teacher, and general manager for the Hawaiian dance group Nā Lei Hulu I Ka Wēkiu.  Julie is a training instructor at the SFFD Division of Training, and has taught the last three classes of recruits at the fire academy.  Julie assists the study team with planning and organizational aspects of the biomonitoring project.  She is deeply concerned for the welfare of her friends and co-workers, given the high incidence of cancer rates among firefighters, and of breast cancer rates among female firefighters.
