Every day firefighters are exposed to chemicals on the fire ground, the fire station, and in some firefighting equipment.  The Women Firefighters Biomonitoring Collaborative is monitoring women fire fighters in the San Francisco Bay Area to learn more about what these chemicals are and whether women fire fighters are exposed to chemicals that have been linked in scientific studies to breast tumors.

 

The results from this study will help make fighting fires safer.





What is the study?

The Women Firefighters Biomonitoring Collaborative Study will examine exposures to chemicals including carcinogens and chemicals that disrupt the body’s normal hormone function.
